Worth County

Wikipedia

Notes

The city of Hanlontown has an annual summer solstice celebration, on the day when the sun sets between the rails of the old Union Pacific railroad line. The "old" courthouse was built in 1880, and the "new" courthouse was built in 1893. General William J. Worth (1794-1849) is buried under a 50-foot granite monument on Worth Square, a traffic island between Fifth Avenue and Broadway in Manhattan.

In Iowa's most northerly county

(It's tied eleven ways),

There's Diamond Jo Casino

And Solstice Sundown Days.

In Northwood, near the border,

Drive through and you will see,

On two sides of the street, two courthouses,

From the nineteenth century.

The county's named for General Worth,

A leader in war and peace.

So too is a Texas city

That has Dallas to the east.

Where William Worth is buried,

It sure doesn't look like here.

It's on Broadway, New York City,

Just across from Madison Square.
