Wapello County

Wikipedia

Notes

Grant Wood's "American Gothic" house is in Eldon. Radar O'Reilly is fictional, but Ottumwa is not.

Wapello is pronounced WAAH-puh-low.

The River Des Moines cuts the county in half.

And it does the same thing in Ottumwa.

On one side's the mall, and the water park too.

On the other's the train to Osceola.

Ottumwa, of course, was the home of Tom Arnold,

And there's Canteen Lunch in the Alley.

It's Video Game Capitol of the Whole World,

And the birthplace of Radar O'Reilly.

The courthouse was built in Eighteen ninety-four,

And Central Park's right 'cross the street.

It's not quite as big as the one in New York,

But City Hall's within a few feet.

East of Ottumwa, there's a town that's called Agency.

Chief Wapello's buried there.

A few miles away, on the outskirts of Eldon,

That house looks familiar, I swear!
