Boone County was named for Nathan Boone, son of Daniel Boone. Mamie Doud Eisenhower was born in Boone in 1896. Seven Oaks ski area is west of town. The 25-mile High Trestle Trail features a 130-foot-high former rail bridge over the Des Moines River.
