Notes
Wilke's grocery store in Elkader is the fifth-oldest family-owned grocery in the country. Zebulon Pike saw Iowa's Pike's Peak (elevation 1,130 feet) before he saw Colorado's (elevation 14,115). The Ringling family, later of circus fame, lived in McGregor from 1860 to 1872.
