Clinton County
Wikipedia
Notes
The county, and the cities of Clinton and DeWitt, were named for DeWitt Clinton, the New York governor who presided over construction of the Erie Canal, 1817-25. The Delmar Calaboose was a one-room jail, built in 1878.
Camanche is pronounced kuh-MAANCH.
The Erie Canal is a long way from here,
People said, but they just wouldn't listen.
The county itself and two cities, at least,
Were named for New York's Governor Clinton.
The farthest-east county in Iowa,
The Mississippi here's three miles wide.
From Eagle Point Park you can easily see
Illinois on the other side.
The courthouse in Clinton is called Romanesque.
There are trees in the town's arboretum.
The baseball team here is called LumberKings,
And it won't cost you too much to see 'em.
There's a Sawmill Museum in Clinton,
And Wide River Winery's not very far.
Terry Bradshaw once lived in Camanche,
And there's an old calaboose in Delmar.
