Notes

Vesterheim, in Decorah, is the National Norwegian-American Museum. Antonin Dvorak spent the summer of 1893 in Spillville, composing his Symphony No. 9, "From the New World." St. Anthony of Padua, in Festina, is reportedly The World's Smallest Church.

Winneshiek is pronounced win-uh-SHEE-ek.

Dvorak is pronounced duh-VOR-zhaak.

In the hills of northeast Iowa,

Winneshiek can be found.

A lovely place where Lutherans

And Norwegians do abound.

If you want to learn 'bout Norway,

You should visit Vesterheim.

Right nearby is Luther College.

I wonder how it got its name.

The Czechs, they came to Spillville,

And that's where Dvorak stayed.

His rooms are just above the clocks

The Bily brothers made.

Near the town of Festina,

There's a church that seats just eight.

In Burr Oak's the only Laura Ingalls

Home in the whole state.
