Lajos Kossuth (1802-1894) was president of the Kingdom of Hungary during the revolution of 1848-49. Ambrose A. Call State Park is just south of Algona.

Kossuth is pronounced kuh-SOOTH.

Iowa's biggest county,

The folks here like to boast.

They're not exaggerating.

It's twice as big as most.


From the Minnesota border

All the way to Humboldt County.

Named for Mr. Kossuth,

Freedom fighter out of Hungary.


The county seat, Algona,

Had a camp for German prisoners.

Today there's a museum here.

No prisoners, just visitors.


There's wineries here and Ambrose Call,

A park that's good for hiking.

At Union Slough, you'll find the

Ducks and geese and swans are flying.
