Frank Merriam, born in Hopkinton in 1865, graduated from Lenox College in 1888, and was governor of California from 1934 to 1939.
Delaware County was named for the state.
The one that's right next to Jersey.
The county seat, Manchester's, named for the town
That's just 'cross the Atlantic Sea.
The courthouse was built in Eighteen ninety-four,
The theater in Nineteen thirty-five.
There is whitewater rafting right through the downtown,
And a hatchery where trout can survive.
Here in Delaware County, you also will find
The oldest state park in the state.
Backbone, it's called, rocky cliffs and a stream,
Oaks and maples, limestone, dolomite.
In Hopkinton, there's an old college called Lenox.
It closed in Nineteen forty-four.
A graduate there became Golden State governor
In the years 'fore the Second World War.
