Major Samuel Ringgold,

The hero of a war.

The only county named for him.

There really are no more.

It's county number ninety-eight.

Just Adams County's smaller.

Adjacent to the Show-Me State,

The home of young Tom Sawyer.

The courthouse square in Mount Ayr

Has cobblestones and bowling,

A library and a theater.

I wonder what they're showing!

Mount Ayr was named for Ayr,

Hometown of Robert Burns.

Scotland's favorite poet,

As every lass and laddie learns.
