The Fenelon Place Elevator, a funicular railway, dates from 1893. The Hotel Julien Dubuque (1915) has a Capone Suite, in honor of the Chicago gangster who reportedly used the Julien as a retreat and hideout. The Shot Tower (1856), which made lead shot for shotguns, was abandoned in 1911.
