Lee County
Wikipedia
Notes
The Mississippi River separates Lee County from Illinois, and the Des Moines River separates it from Missouri. Fort Madison is the home of the Iowa State Penitentiary. Amtrak's "Southwest Chief," from Chicago to Los Angeles, crosses the Fort Madison Swing Bridge (the world's longest swing bridge) before making its only Iowa stop, at Fort Madison.
Keokuk is pronounced KEE-uh-kuk.
Lowest point in the state,
Where two rivers meet.
Southeastern corner.
Two county seats.
One is named Keokuk.
There's a big park called Rand.
Overlooking the river,
There are mansions on Grand.
The other's Fort Madison,
Where they've rebuilt the fort.
Well-known for its bridge,
But not for its port.
There are hundreds of folks here,
Locked up, unlike most.
They can't get on Amtrak
And ride to the Coast.
