Cherokee County

Notes
Randy Newman's song "A Wedding in Cherokee County" was probably not about this one. The -47 degree temperature in Washta was recorded in 1912.
Here, rodeo is pronounced row-DAY-oh.
There are eight total Cherokee counties,
And most of them in the Southeast.
That's where the Cherokee came from,
And not from 'round here in the least.
The county seat city is Cherokee too.
Its citizens number five thousand.
There's a lot going on, you will have to admit,
For a place that's so very uncrowded.
There's a symphony orchestra here,
And the town's very own planetarium.
A rodeo, a theater, a museum, and more.
Almost everything but an aquarium.
The coldest temperature ever in Iowa
Was in Washta, just southwest of Quimby.
Forty-seven below, I am kidding you not.
And they didn't count wind-chill degree.
