Cass County

Notes
The Hitchcock House, near Lewis, was a station on the Underground Railroad in the 1850s. Lake Anita State Park is near Anita. In Massena, whose motto is "The Home of Friendly People," the town baseball team called the Massena Red Sox has been in existence since 1949.
In the southwestern part of the state,
Cass has two rivers that reach the Missouri.
Nishnabotna is one, flowing south by southwest.
The other, nearby, is the Nodaway.
The county seat is the town of Atlantic.
Legend says this is how it was named:
The city fathers, they say, flipped a coin to decide,
And it wasn't Pacific that won - so they claimed.
The Coca Cola Capital of Iowa.
Atlantic's been that since 1929.
And Ed Perkins, of Lewis, invented Kool-Aid.
But there's no one 'round here making wine.
There's a house from the Underground Railroad,
And a state park that's much-liked for fishin'.
In Massena, the people are friendly,
And the Sox are a baseball tradition.
