Buchanan County
Wikipedia
Notes
The Wapsipinicon River is commonly called the Wapsi.
Quasqueton is pronounced Kwas-KWEE-tun.
It was named for James Buchanan,
The unmarried president.
So did Iowans give him the honor
Just because he was celibate?
The county seat city is Independence,
On the beautiful Wapsi River.
It was once very famous for horse-racing.
They say only Kentucky was bigger.
The State Hospital looks Second Empire.
The old Wapsi Mill's been restored.
The courthouse, I'm told, is Depression Moderne.
The theater's Art Deco, but there's more!
In the countryside outside Quasqueton,
There's a house by the great Frank Lloyd Wright.
It's called Cedar Rock, in Usonian style,
And it gave all its owners delight.
