Cerro Gordo County

Cerro Gordo's in northern Iowa.

The county was named for a battle.

It's the only one in the whole U.S.A.,

Just possibly 'cause it means "Fat Hill."

The county seat city of Mason City

Was home to Meredith Willson,

The Music Man and Professor Hill,

And a gal with a slight touch of sin.

Mason City is much celebrated

For the Prairie Style houses you'll find there.

And Mr. Wright's beautiful Park Inn Hotel,

That's sitting right on the town square.

Buddy Holly and Ritchie and Bopper

Played their final show here at Clear Lake.

They call it the day that the music died,

But their memory does not fade away.
